Summer So Long

Cooling off in Eels Creek So long summer with all your

fields of rising corn and dusty rolls of hay

Good night rocking end-of-dock meteor shower shows

So long lazy morning coffee flavoured adventure planning table meetings

till next time long meandering hikes and swims and runs

It was a sweet one mostly

though there were all the usual pings and slights of life

But we tasted everything that grew

we spoke and listened deeply and we measured the sky

and furnished more of our dreams through you

Your scent on this round stone lingers on

I wind up to let it skip away from my sun-warmed grip

Change my mind and first wetting it with my tongue

slide this talisman of gratitude into my pocket
